I have been trying to link a few of mine and the groups ideas together, we haven't met up too much but we have been communicating a lot via facebook.
Taking the unexpected element into consideration (decorated routes, walks, unusual things to see...) I have linked this with my thoughts about creating structures, to think about proposing built structures that would be at sides of roads, in alleyways, or in more public places/checkpoints accross our designed walks, and they would house DESIGN.
This could be
-comissioned designed works,
-showcasing designers work
-responding to 'design' of manchester
-be interactive...
I thought initially about them being white cubes, the idea being that the WHITE CUBE IS SUBVERTED, as it is OUTSIDE (participation works best outside etc...) and that they design instead of art.
(design board)
I then moved on to thinking HEXAGONAL! In-keeping with the bees, slightly more interesting and geometric in shape, and would reflect the idea of connectivity, they could even be movable and interlock...
It would be really useful to think about them large scale, and maybe produce some visualisations.
I have made up a zine, which I hope the group will be enthusiastic about! I have brought together the questions and responses that Flo, Celia and I went out to gather;
WHAT WILL YOU MAKE OF ME?
(pictures)
The idea is that these are instructions to designers, and they are to come up with proposals that are inspired by the people we have questioned, to promote interesting designs...And these would be displayed in the white hexagons.

I think this responds to the personal element of our festival, it could also be quite fun, and open to the public too, to engage them in the design project, they could create their own responses (hopefully not to be abused...).

Another idea for our unusual white hexagons could be checkpoints, or to house exhibitions which which contain contributions from visitors... I also quite like of PEOPLES WORLDS which Fiona mentioned, in relation to the man we questioned, who's life was all about working at the Oxford Road newspaper stand! We could create visual landscapes of peoples worlds, and designers would get to work with some of the quirky characters of Manchester.
