Dye?

Some of the weeks dying experiments... The big pink one, didn't turn out as expected, pleated the bottom as i did in one of my little samples, you can see the pleats a little bit! But the whole shade is very pink, could be good or bad, maybe further work to be done with it.

Layed/hung things up to think about arrangement and the forms and which pieced to concentrate on!

I quite like the mottled fabric of one, with the stitch; must persevere with the stitch! And the one that is looking bulbus, could be quite nice to dye with that graduated, stained look...

Scans...

A few scans of favourite pieces, looking at the lines and structures and colours..! Did a bit of editing.

Little bit of layering, might experiment a bit more, e/g with some huge pintucking over my dyed pieces, and print out a few of the images very large!

I have also done a few drawings, looking at the old stitch and dots again! The dotty ones, are sort of map drawings; I laid out tracing paper over and ordanance survey map of manchester and salford, half thinking about space and place, and half by chance as I had just found the map, so thought it could be an interesting... So the concentrated parts are the places I go most, so up and down quay street, cavendish, grovesnor, town and the northern quarter etc... I think they worked out quite nicely... and translate to my extensive use of french knots and lines of my stitch...

  

Colours and dust sheets!

Dust sheets! A little bit of sewing on this one, maybe sew it all together, into a tube? Take it around a bit? Stuff it? maybe.

everyday;everywhere

Added to my dishcloths. I really wanted to think about the 'everyday' of textiles, textiles is everywhere, everyday (not just in the studio) so I  wanted to invade the space, to make this point. also thinking, there are no boundaries, and i have made it all my space, or rather place because they belong to me - well its just an idea. It's just a starting point.

I want to go on to creating forms a little bit stranger, thinking about unheimliche again...

Interestingly, the labels that i ripped off had 'everyday' printed on them. handy! so decided to further my point by highlighting the word on every label.

i have also been thinking about more experimenting.

bought some huge white dust sheets, so i am going to experiment with creating forms and putting them in places...

i will be continuing with the dish cloths too, so watch your space...

oh so textiles

This post looks very textilesy -when i say 'i am doing textiles' i am pretty sure this is what people think.

 not what i am aiming for, but i needed to have a little think about what has been going on.

So. Things I am going to continue thinking about...

Colours! metallics and coppers... and just in little strips/graduated/concentrated/or just generally subtle!

also lines, travelling guiding, connecting, space,place etc 

These are successful (the best of an unhappy bunch?!) dye samples. Thinking pinky coppery, and the marks made on the blue ones- dots spots holes lines.

i have been thinking about creating places in spaces;

invading a space; thinking about boundaries (within a space; of my space); thinking about the everyday of textiles and textiles within a place.

i have also been working on a corded piece. something i am going to continue making, and/or make a really big fat one.

and thinking about the threads and colours.
