I have always been intrigued, inspired and obsessed with objects laid out/collected/organised/labelled/contained/old/strange/useful/very un-useful. This is just the place, if ever there is one.
The Pitt Rivers is a worldwide collection of objects, informing ethnography and anthropological studies.
108,000 objects.
12,000 are on display, crammed into spaces, making for 'a unique learning environment' (-overheard from the guide).
Seeing the museum, it made me think about objects, and the information we can get from objects be it personal like memories or use for studies. Made me think about space, the effect of so much in one space, what if so little was in that space, 1 object? The feeling of such a wealth of knowledge and history was something I felt from the place, and I think this is why I love museums and archives and collections so much...Made me want to start my own little collection of found objects or items, something to think about for the next project...
